The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation wants to allow doctors to prescribe medicines to patients not on instructions (off label). However, the decision to prescribe the drug can be taken only if it is approved by the medical commission.
The department informed on the beginning of the development of the document “On Amending the Procedure for Prescribing Medicinal Products, approved by Order of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation of December 20, 2012, No. 1175n “. The relevant notice was published on the Federal portal of projects of normative legal acts.
According to sub-item 6.1 of the Procedure, it is not allowed to prescribe medications without medical indications. Therefore, medicine specialists can prescribe a drug that is not part of the medical care standard, only by the decision of the medical commission and if the patient has an individual intolerance or for life indications.
Such initiative individualizes the approach of the patient treatment. With its help, doctors will pay less attention to the instructions for the drug use and to be more guided by the medical indications for a particular patient. This decision does not completely abolish the instructions and is intended to improve the quality of treatment.
